In October 2012, Google announced Universal Analytics as the new operating standard for Google Analytics. This was Google's first big shake up of their web analytics platform. The tracking code and associated JavaScript library have had a complete revamp and this has resulted in a number of improvements (big and small) to the now ageing classic Google Analytics code base.

Google has now partly upgraded all existing accounts to Universal Analytics and will soon be depreciating the classic version, this requires you to complete the setup by removing old code and replacing it with the new universal code base, so it's time to make sure that you are fully set up and don't lose any valuable analytics data.
